Passive Optical Networks (PONs) are increasingly viewed as a key element of future high-capacity broadband networks. The transmission capacity of optical fiber presently provides adequate capability for delivery of high-speed services. However, PON standards and networks must evolve, in order to meet future capacity demands.

This session will look at the emerging XGS-PON and NG-PON2 standards, and the challenges associated with their deployment. It will discuss at their coexistence with existing GPON service, as well as migration paths from current to evolved PON standards and services. A key part of addressing the deployment challenges is understanding the new tool sets required for network build/construction, as well as turn-up and activation, in order to get the build right the first time, and to minimize risks of repeat truck rolls when activating a customer service. Finally, the webinar will explore appropriate use cases for service providers and contractors, exploring best practices in order to maximize efficiency and deliver a robust PON plant.

A CSP's digital transformation involves so much more than technology. Crucial – and often most challenging – is the cultural transformation that goes along with it. As Sigma's Chief Technology Officer, Catherine Michel has extensive experience with technology as she leads the company's entire product portfolio and strategy. But she's also no stranger to merging technology and culture, having taken a company — Tribold — from inception to acquisition (by Sigma in 2013), and she continues to advise service providers on how to drive their own transformations. This impressive female leader and vocal advocate for other women in the industry will join Women in Comms for a live radio show to discuss all things digital transformation, including the cultural transformation that goes along with it.
