Now that DOCSIS 3.1 is almost universally deployed, cable technologists are rolling up their sleeves again to craft yet another next-gen version of DOCSIS. Known as DOCSIS 4.0, this emerging set of specs will incorporate the features of both Full Duplex DOCSIS (FDX) and Extended Spectrum DOCSIS (ESD), giving cable operators two different but complementary options for expanding their bandwidth capacity and delivering symmetrical speeds of 25 Gbps or more to broadband subscribers. In this session, we will delve into the details of DOCSIS 4.0, review the status of the emerging specs, discuss upcoming tests and trials and explore what the new specs will enable.

Alan Breznick has tracked the media, telecommunications, broadband, and consumer electronics industries for more than 20 years. Before switching over to Heavy Reading in 2007, he was the original editor of Light Reading Cable Website and founding author of Heavy Reading's Cable Industry Insider. At Heavy Reading, he primarily focuses on cable/MSO services, technologies, and networks, as well as IPTV infrastructure. Alan was formerly a broadband analyst for Kinetic Strategies and a contributing analyst for One Touch Intelligence. He previously reported for Communications Daily, Cable World, Multichannel News, Broadband Daily, Crain's New York Business, and Genuine Article Press, among other publications.
David Kozischek, Standards Manager, Global Technical & Industry Standards, is responsible for the development, coordination and communication of Corning’s standards strategy across Corning’s optical fiber, cabling, and connectivity products.
David has more than 30 years of experience in communications technology and a profound commitment to Corning’s products and services. His roles within Corning have spanned roles as a Sr Field Engineer, Sr Systems Engineer, Technology Manager Strategic Planning, Marketing Manager Data Center and LAN, and Applications Manager MSO/CATV.
David currently manages COC’s participation in TIA study groups/task forces as well as participating in the International Telecommunication Union – Telecommunication (ITU-T) and The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards work. He also oversees Corning participation in the InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) on Fibre Channel and supports the Society of Cable TV Engineers (SCTE) standards.
David has a BS in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University and a BS in Business/Marketing from University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He has been issued 6 patents and has authored over 40 papers and articles.
Paul Rodrigues has over 27 years of experience in the Telecommunications industry. He joined the SCTE•ISBE in 2017 to be their Director, Field Education and is responsible for developing and maintaining all the field training and certification for the SCTE•ISBE. He has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology degree from Kean University.
Paul has experience in multiple areas in the industry, including Information Technology, Technical Operations, Management, and Learning and Development. Over half of his career has been focused on Learning and Development. Where he has leveraged his experience to design and deliver training programs targeted for diverse audiences such as technical operation, sales, and senior leadership.

Rob Wilmoth is Chief Architect for the Red Hat North America Service provider team. He works closely with customers and partners advising and assisting with challenges ranging from regulatory compliance and general IT, to changing the way that they view their business problems in the network and content delivery spaces. He has been with Red Hat for eleven years in various Solutions Architecture roles supporting accounts including; AT&T, WarnerMedia, Charter Communications, Comcast, TIAA Bank, and the utility industry.
Rob is an Appalachian State Grad with bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Information Systems.
Steve is a respected international subject matter expert and thought leader in telecommunications, high technology and information technology systems engineering.
At SCTE•ISBE he is responsible for training content that can lead to increased revenue for cable system operators, resolution of business challenges and enhanced subscriber experiences. He has been integral to the development of ~800 modules of SCTE•ISBE training, as well as boot camps and certification programs for more than 100,000 telecommunication professionals.
SCTE•ISBE training supports the cable workforce in such areas as Fiber Deep, DAA, FTTx, DOCSIS, Wi-Fi, routing, switching, virtualization, cloud, IPv6, Ethernet, Business Services, Cybersecurity, MPEG, Linux, Critical Facilities, installation services, EPON and outside plant/HFC.
A holder of more than 40 industry and instructor certification, Steve has been a leader in conducting MSO IPv6 training; serves as lead instructor of the SCTE/ISBE and SMPTE Cisco Academy virtual classroom and works with international telecommunications companies to develop ADDIE-compliant career path and training programs.
