Communications service providers (CSPs) and enterprises are increasingly looking for ways to gracefully evolve existing business models to more agile cloud-native service models. Real-time communication applications are being re-architected and deployed in the cloud to improve time to value, scalability and profitability. Jim Hodges, Principal Analyst – Cloud and Security, Heavy Reading
Jim leads Heavy Reading’s research on the impact of NFV on the control plane and application layers at the core and edge. This includes the evolution path of SIP applications, unified communications (UC), IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), session border controllers (SBCs), Diameter signaling controllers (DSCs), policy controllers and WebRTC. Jim is also focused on the network and subscriber impact of Big Data and Analytics. He authors Heavy Reading's NFV and SDN Market Trackers. Other areas of research coverage include Subscriber Data Management (SDM) and fixed-line TDM replacement. Jim joined Heavy Reading from Nortel Networks, where he tracked the VoIP and application server market landscape and was a key contributor to the development of Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN) standards. Additional technical experience was gained with Bell Canada, where he performed IN and SS7 network planning, numbering administration, technical model forecast creation and definition of regulatory-based interconnection models. Jim is based in Ottawa, Canada.

Jonathan Knop, Vice President, Global Business Development, Dialogic
Jonathan Knop is currently head of global SBC business development at Dialogic. For the past two years, he has been a senior member of the executive Product Management organization at Dialogic. He has a diverse 20-year background in product management, business development and sales roles specializing in real-time communication solutions for the communication service provider and enterprise markets. Jonathan has most recently been leading the Dialogic SBC and softswitch product portfolio strategic planning, evolution and go-to-market strategy as the portfolio has been virtualized and is replacing legacy networks ranging from high-scale core networks to globally distributed networks in Amazon’s EC2 public cloud. Prior to joining Dialogic, Jonathan held NFV business development, sales and product management positions in companies such as GENBAND, Veraz Networks, ECI Telecom and IBM.

Samuel Dratwa, Architect, Head of Product Management, Dialogic
Samuel Dratwa is currently the architect and head of product management for the Dialogic service provider portfolio, which includes the BorderNet SBC. Samuel has been involved in re-architecting and evolving the Dialogic SBC solution portfolio to a cloud-native architecture that can be deployed on both NFV based private clouds as well as public clouds like Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2).

Samuel is a telecom industry veteran with over 30 years experience working with telecom operators, vendors, and integrators at companies that include AT&T, Amdocs, and Bezeq.

Samuel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from the Open University.
