Great piece - thought-provoking
"Running applications on public cloud is more operationally effective than on-premises infrastructure for which you must take responsibility for continual updating and patching. Outsourcing those tasks to a Tier 1 provider such as Microsoft with their Azure solution is an easy way to reduce trading risk."

That's quite a statement from the Technology Director of a pretty large ISP.

In principle the idea of "Tech Debt" and the "Trading Risk" methodology certainly sound persuasive. (Compliance to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework is almost invariably the right starting point nowadays too).

It's notable too that it often takes a high profile setback such as what Talk Talk suffered in 2015 to be motivated to drive organizational change of this kind.

I imagine a lot of ISPs may want to hear more about what Talk Talk is doing here.

Tier one telcos? Maybe one or two The rest, I'm not so sure.

Tremendous piece, James. Thanks a lot.

A CSP's digital transformation involves so much more than technology. Crucial – and often most challenging – is the cultural transformation that goes along with it. As Sigma's Chief Technology Officer, Catherine Michel has extensive experience with technology as she leads the company's entire product portfolio and strategy. But she's also no stranger to merging technology and culture, having taken a company — Tribold — from inception to acquisition (by Sigma in 2013), and she continues to advise service providers on how to drive their own transformations. This impressive female leader and vocal advocate for other women in the industry will join Women in Comms for a live radio show to discuss all things digital transformation, including the cultural transformation that goes along with it.
